Writing, Inspiration and Dedication

As many of you know, I spend usually 2 to 3 days in the studio during the week. One of those days is usually an all-day writing day, from when I get up to about 7pm (usually a Saturday unless I’m travelling, or for some odd reason I just can’t be in the studio, cause there is something else that is going on).   The other 2 days are normally rehearsal days.   If we aren’t rehearsing then they usually get turned into writing/studio days.   And, generally I post something on those days in my social media sites that I’m doing some writing or have had progress!   Ever since around 2001 I decided I would spend Saturday as my day dedicated to writing.   As the years have passed, that day is still my (dedicated) writing day, and all that inspiration I have comes out easier and easier!   If I were to give out any kind of advice to aspiring musicians, pick a day, one day a week where you dedicate your time to writing. As stated above, mine is Saturday.   Do not diverge from those days (unless you absolutely have to)!   You will find that, as time progresses, inspiration will come and it will be easier to get stuff out!!   I think the other thing is, it doesn’t matter how shitty you feel… just sit down and do it!!  You’ll have that one day to write, and you’ll start looking forward to it!   And, maybe you’ll realize that this shit can be fun!
