Well, what a year! Released the “Boom!” video back in March
2015, then in April released “ant: The Path Home” remix album, November we
released the 4 part “This D1sk” EP series! Then played our first show in a year
on Dec.10! It’s been a productive year for Twitch! This next year it will be no different,
there may be another video planned, we play our first show of the year on Feb.
6th, 2016 (with more shows planned for the next little while), and I’m
not promising anything, but there may be some new Twitch music as well (may be
an album, but you’ll have to wait and see)!
So, I wish you a Happy New Year! Stay productive, stay inspired! Thank
you for coming along on this journey, thank you to family, friends, and thanks
to all the fans! See you in 2016!

Book: Virtual Light by William Gibson
Well, finished reading this! Virtual Light by William Gibson! Excellent book! The blurb on the back says this: "2005: Welcome to NoCal and SoCal, the uneasy sister-states of what used to be California. Here the millennium has come and gone, leaving in its wake only stunned survivors. In Los Angeles, Berry Rydell is a former armed-response rentacop now working for a bounty hunter. Chevette Washington is a bicycle messenger turned pickpocket who impulsively snatches a pair of innocent-looking sunglasses. But these are no ordinary shades. What you can see through these high-tech specs can make you rich--or get you killed. Now Berry and Chevette are on the run, zeroing in on the digitalized heart of DatAmerica, where pure information is the greatest high. And a mind can be a terrible thing to crash..."
Good book, would definitely recommend if you are into cyberpunk fiction!!

Thoughts: Skinny Puppy: Brap: Back and Forth Vol. 3 & 4
I really enjoy Brap: Back And Forth Vol. 3 and 4! It was the first Skinny Puppy "album" I purchased (not first time hearing, but first purchased, cause I didn't know what to purchase and I looked at the cover and said sure)! Every time I listen to it I get this overwhelming sense of this bleak world (or at least what I thought they were trying to portray back when those songs first came out)! I also really enjoy that most of the tracks on this release are live takes or early recordings of these songs... they have this quality to them that, like I said above, really have this bleak, dark feel to them. I have the Doomsday: Back And Forth Vol. 5 live album but, it doesn't have the same quality to it. Anyway, really enjoy Brap: Back And Forth Vol. 3 and 4, and I thought I would share! What do you guys think of it?

Manga: BioMega: Vol. 2
Well, read the second volume of BioMega. Pretty Good!! Here's what it says on the back:
"After capturing Eon Green, DRF forces are amassing around TOA Heavy Industry headquarters and have taken Dr. Kurokawa and his daughter into custody. Zoichi must attempt a rescue - Dr. Kurokawa's laboratory may yield critical information on Eon Green. Elsewhere, TOA Heavy Industry agent Nishu Mizunoe searches for Kozlov Grebnev and the secrets he knows about the DRF's research, origins and their apocalyptic plan for the entire human race!"
If you are into zombie apocalypse with a dose of cyberpunk I would suggest picking this manga up!

Festival: Terminus: Velocity
Well, as many of you know, Terminus festival has once again
happened this year! I have to be honest, this year was a little underwhelming.
It seemed that there weren’t too many industrial bands this year. Seemed like
it was industrial light. However, the festival was still good! There were some
bands I was looking forward to seeing! Here are some of the highlights from the
show:
Day 1:
Digital Winter: I’ve seen these guys many times before at local shows here in Calgary. They ended up opening the festival, and they did not disappoint! Matter of fact, I think this is probably one of the best performances they’ve put on ever!
iVardensphere: Well,
what is there to say, iVardensphere put on an excellent performance! They just
recently added the Taiko drumming crew (permanently) to their live lineup, and
yep… Good!!
Dive: This was the highlight of the evening! I
have to be honest, I’m not too familiar with Dive or Dirk Ivens, but the
performance was amazing! As of recently, I’ve been listening to more noisey
type stuff and when Dive came on stage I was quite impressed (musically and
performance)! He is a one man show, but he had an incredible stage performance,
and he has incredible stage presence!
Day 2:
The Body: This band is more of a metal/noise band with
noise/electronic elements. Their setup was a guy on bass/guitar/vocals (with
some kind of noise/electronic setup) and a drummer. All I
have to say: Really fuckin noisey! Really good! I will probably be picking up
their album/releases!
Cocksure: Well, I was expecting them to be good, and
they did not disappoint! They even had a
dancing naked man join them on stage (Ayria’s drummer)!
This Morn Omina: This Morn Omina were good! I have not
listened to too much of their stuff, but I always find live shows are a great
way to be introduced to their (bands) stuff!
Members of iVardensphere also joined them on stage for the entirety of
the performance, which I think enhanced the whole the live show!
Day 3:
Aesthetic
Perfection: I’ve seen Aesthetic
Perfection 6 or 7 times now (not sure exactly how many times, but it’s
somewhere around there). This time,
Aesthetic Perfection performed songs from Daniel Graves old side project Necessary
Response! No drummer this time around,
just keyboardist and him, but still an excellent performance!
Well, those were the highlights, like I mentioned, this year
was a little underwhelming. There wasn’t too many bands I was excited about,
but the bands that I was excited about put on excellent performances! Thank you Dickens Pub for putting on these events! We’ll see
what next year brings!!

Manga: Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex: Episode 3: Idolater
Well, picked this up a couple days ago and read it. Pretty Good! It's based on the Ghost In The Shell: SAC anime series. So, if you've seen the first season of the series, then you know what this manga is about! Here's what the back of the manga says: "Marcelo Jarti, the hero of a democratic revolution, and South American drug dealer, has been coming to Japan periodically and no one knows why. The Major and Section 9 track his movements after he makes his latest appearance in the country. They are determined to figure out the meaning of his visits, but following Jarti leads to more than they could have possibly expected...". Anyway, good quick read! If you follow Ghost In The Shell, I would strongly recommend picking this up!

This was my first Ministry concert and it's unfortunate that it'll be the last, being that as Al said; this will be their last tour as Ministry! Honestly, I'm glad I got the chance to see them. Industrial Soundtrack For The Urban Decay
Went and saw the Industrial Soundtrack For The Urban Decay documentary last night! It was good! Went through the main bands that formed the beginnings of industrial music (Throbbing Gristle, Cabaret Voltaire, SPK, NON, The Klinik... all that kind of stuff). Interviews with Genesis P. Orridge, Cosey Fanni Tutti, Chris Carter, Dirk Ivens, Graeme Revell...etc, about the formative years of industrial and how it all came about! It came to about 1 hour long. All I have to say is, if your into industrial music you should watch this! It is a good introduction of how it came about and some of the main bands that helped shape the beginnings of it! The only thing negative I have to say about it is, it was a little short and it only covers the beginnings of industrial. I would have liked to see it go from beginnings to more modern stuff, but... it was a good start! I hope they do more of these and expand on the history! Despite all that, it was still inspiring! Can't wait to get to some music writing!!

Writing, Inspiration and Dedication
As many of you know, I spend
usually 2 to 3 days in the studio during the week. One of those days is usually
an all-day writing day, from when I get up to about 7pm (usually a Saturday
unless I’m travelling, or for some odd reason I just can’t be in the studio,
cause there is something else that is going on). The other 2 days are normally rehearsal days.
If
we aren’t rehearsing then they usually get turned into writing/studio days. And, generally I post something on those days in my social media sites that I’m
doing some writing or have had progress!
Ever since around 2001 I decided I would spend Saturday as my day
dedicated to writing. As the years have
passed, that day is still my (dedicated) writing day, and all that inspiration
I have comes out easier and easier! If
I were to give out any kind of advice to aspiring musicians, pick a day, one day a
week where you dedicate your time to writing. As stated above, mine is
Saturday. Do not diverge from those days (unless you
absolutely have to)! You will find that, as time progresses, inspiration will come and it will be easier to get stuff
out!! I think the other thing is, it doesn’t
matter how shitty you feel… just sit down and do it!! You’ll have that one day to write, and you’ll
start looking forward to it! And, maybe you’ll realize that this shit can
be fun!

Vision and Purpose
Maybe it's just me, but I can't create sounds/noise without a purpose! Otherwise, it's just pointless crap! I don't like sitting down without a goal or vision in mind! If it's for learning your gear, or learning synthesis in general, sure! If it's experimenting which, really goes back to learning, sure! Or, if it's specifically for creating a sound to fit into a song, that is also good, but if it's just for shits and giggles, not really interested. Although, tweaking to just see what happens is alright too (once again, goes back to experimenting/learning)! If I were to offer any advice to someone who is creating their own music and creating their own sounds it would be this:
1. Create with purpose and vision! Know what kind of sounds you want to create and where they'll fit into your productions/songs! If you hear something in your head for a particular part of a song, create that sound as close to what you hear in your head! (Think of all the different parts of the sound and how you can go about creating that sound with your synthesizer!)
2. If you are just experimenting or learning, I would suggest have the manual for your synth beside you, so if you need to know what a certain function does on your synth you can quickly look it up in the manual (alternatively, you can just tweak parameters to see what they do as well, but I find it takes up more time and it's quicker to just look at the manual)!
3. Have fun! If you are not having fun then what the fuck are you doing!!

Books: A Brief History Of Time by Stephen Hawking
Well, finished reading this today! Was definitely an interesting read... there is some math involved (at least in the beginning). 'A Brief History Of Time' talks about the beginnings of the universe (or at least our understanding of it) to things like black holes and worm holes to open string and closed string theory! Very good book! I would suggest reading it if you want to get a basic understanding of modern (or relatively modern) science!
